When a man waits
is he always looking?
does his heart flush fiddlin’ for the news?
Can the man stand
or is he kneeling?
do his hands sweat gripping on a pew?

When a man waits
can he have a clear thought?
does his mind race around possibility?
Can the man get past
what chance brought?
Is his conscious charging its fee?

Well when ball ain’t in my court,
And I’ve nothing to report,
I whistle, and honey do.
Oh, I whistle and honey do.

I’m a man waiting but I’ve things to do.
