You Don’t Get My Song

Words and Music by Matthew P. Hanley (BMI)

You Don’t Get My Song is a slow, minor-key song that is actually pretty funny. The singer is telling an ex that she may have taken this and that, and yes she has her freedom and a squad to boot.. but, …. but, something’s are off-limits such as his art, which is what matters to him. The song lyric and title use a wordplay on “not getting a song” which usually means not understanding a song (which is probably true too). But what he refers to is she can’t HAVE it.

“You think you have everything. You are so wrong.
You’ve taken my music ,,,, you don’t get my song.”

You Don’t Get My Song is the first track on the Starring MH album “Seasonal Aisle.”
